Century Venues engaged Heritas to support the restoration of the Victoria Theatre, NSW's oldest remaining theatre and a State-listed heritage item with a rich history of silent pictures, vaudeville and live performance dating to 1891. Heritas assisted Century Venues in successfully securing $1 million through the NSW Heritage Grants Program, the largest single grant awarded under the program that round, to fund facade restoration, improved dress circle access, and heritage interpretation, and is providing ongoing heritage consultancy to guide the sensitive integration of new elements including a revitalised lobby and new dress circle structure. The project will restore the theatre to its rightful place as Newcastle's premier live performance venue, celebrating over 130 years of layered heritage fabric while introducing contemporary interventions to meet the needs of a modern theatre.
