Heritas was engaged by the City of Newcastle to prepare a Heritage Assessment and Schedule of Conservation Works for the Soldiers’ War Memorial at The Junction, a locally listed civic landmark commemorating World War I servicemen. Through detailed research and condition assessment, the project equipped Council with a clear understanding of the memorial’s heritage significance, risks, and material condition. The resulting conservation schedule prioritised works, identified appropriate repair methodologies, and established a staged maintenance framework informed by specialist stonemasonry advice. This documentation provides City of Newcastle with a practical, defensible tool to guide future conservation investment, manage risk, and support informed decision‑making for the long‑term care of an important community memorial.
