Heritas has provided ongoing heritage consultancy services for the former Newcastle Gasworks site, supporting both remediation and redevelopment outcomes. Initially engaged by Jemena, Heritas prepared a Photographic Archival Record of heritage items, industrial structures and the former administration building prior to and following remediation works, ensuring a permanent record of this rare and vulnerable industrial site. More recently, the team was engaged by Precinct Capital to support subdivision of the site, prepare a heritage assessment for the existing substation building, and advise on heritage opportunities and constraints for the former administration building. This work enabled informed planning decisions while identifying pathways for redevelopment that respect the site’s heritage values.
